For now, this field can be empty with default, unmodified, configuration.
Why not put today's date here ?

I asume this reffers to the updateSequence attribute of the root
WMT_MS_Capabilities element.
I was thinking on it. As for the WMS 1.1 spec, this fields is intended for
facilitating cache usage of the
capabilities docuement. My idea is to have a getUpdateTime() at geoserver
config level, so it is updated
when one changes the config info from the config app.</p>
<p>is this issue related to that? or something else?
if so, you can reasign it to me</p>

<p>I think I fixed this, or at least I think I got the code working as it is supposed to - the problem raised an exception on jetty, it was looking for service.xml instead of services.xml. I think it now works as they intended, showing the last modified time of the file, which is generally todays date. I don't quite understand, and it could be wrong, but it looks better for sure.</p>
