POLYGON layer from PostGIS renders white tiles

In PostGIS is stored a table of simple, valid POLYGON. Each POLYGON is like a square grid cell, there are no overlapping POLYGON. I believe this same same rendered in Geoserver 2.3x, but no longer have the machine to test (this is the same upgraded server)

One table is aprox. 1400 cells by 1200 cells.

From Geoserver, choose the OpenLayers Preview for the layer. Choose any SLD style, including stock POLYGON, LINE and POINT sld, or a custom SLD with values.

Notice that the cells render correctly close up ("high" zoom levels) but when zooming out ("low" zoom level) to the last two values, Geoserver renders an image, or tiles, as white with no error msg.

WMS in QGis shows the same behavior.. in one case, 1:160,000 renders correctly, but 1:250,000 shows white only.

You may want to attach screen shots of working vs not working. Also if you have a log please attach to the issue.

Andrea I spent some time on IRC with Brian going over the usual reasons why a layer won't draw when zoomed out:

style related (say scale denominator)? No - same issue found when reverting to the out of the box polygon style.

renderer tripping up on an invalid geometry? No - Brian checked PostGIS

Performance timeout? Perhaps but the empty tiles seem to get returned faster than that ...

Is this not rendering when zooming out a lot? If so, it might be due to postgis st_simplify killing the polygon fully, and you can fix it by disabling the simplification flag in the postgis store configuration.

See http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOT-4737, the issue is actually in postgis though: http://trac.osgeo.org/postgis/ticket/2093

Simplify option on the PostGIS Store - that was it
