new build targ release-binary

uses a bundled conf for new users and builds a war file. Chris maybe you could bundle it with tomcat?

Maybe I'll get this for 1.2.0, but most likely not. I changed to jetty, which will work quite nicely. What I'd like to see with this is first a version for linux, the only thing really needed there is a nice shell script for start up and shutdown. Should be pretty easy and nice to use, maybe will require setting GEOSERVER_HOME, but linux users can handle that (its the windows guys who bitch about such things). For windows I'd like an install shield, and what would be really nice is a little swing app like the resin start/stop button.

Embedding Jetty is a good idea IMHO.

You can take inspiration from the cocoon.* files at http://cvs.apache.org/viewcvs.cgi/cocoon-2.1/

Hope this helps,

Created a binary version with embedded jetty, and even a windows installer. Should do .deb and .rpm's as well, but we'll leave those for another bug. The .sh and .bat files should be sufficient for now.
