Document the function of the directories inside src

Description

In this directory:

https://svn.codehaus.org/geoserver/branches/1.7.x/src/ - https://svn.codehaus.org/geoserver/branches/1.7.x/src/

I would like to know what each subdir is used for. (This is for code newbies and curious people like me.) I can't seem to find this documented in Confluence or even in a README.txt. Perhaps this already exists somewhere...
